  • HELP stupid glow plugs HELP

Help Please or at least some advice !!!!!!!!
I have attempted to change my glow plugs and have taken off the trunking that leads to my air filter and then removed all but 1 of the ceramic/brass screws that hold down the bus bar.....................the first one towards the radiator came off fine and the 3rd and 4th came off with minimal damage to the ceramic However number 2 which is underneath the part which has EFI written on it is broken down to the brass and i cannot get any grip on it!!!
Am i going to have to remove said metal trunking with EFI written on it and if so how ? Or will i be able to finally get to the plugs and not be able to remove it anyhow as there doesnt seem to be the angle to lever it out.
Still at leawst its only just above freezing and my wife was due 2 days ago and i need the car for the hospital run....i know daft and irresponsible HELP PLease

Do you have a 12mm deep socket for the glow plugs? If not you will need one. Remove the hose clamps either end of the EFI tube and unbolt to remove. For the broken glow plug nut you will need a pair of vice grips or similar. When you replace them use some standard 4mm flanged nuts.

To remove the metal air inlet pipe with EFI on it, undo the clips at both ends and pull - PITA to fit again though. Easier to remove the 3 nuts that hold on the inlet pipe to the inlet tract on the manifold for refitting. You will need a pair of long nosed pliers to remove it. Happens on a lot of them so you aren't alone.

Not sure what you call them over there but I call them multi grips. They're a plier type tool with an angled head and adjustable to different jaw openings. Use these to close the produding part of the hose clamps and they will open up.Don't get your fingers in the way of clamps because they will bite severely.

Remember to take note of the order in which the glow plug rail insulators etc connect to manifold. Get this wrong and you will blow the fuse.

The insulated nuts are a bugger for spinning off the brass inserts, like you said there isn't any room to get mole grips or similar in there.

The easist way I've found is to get something like a wood chisel, and cut one side of the brass all the down, them you can get it off with some long nose pliers.

The easiest way is to tap on a female torx socket, then just undo. I have broken loads of them from doing my head a few times. Good luck.
