4WD not engaging

Hi. Has anyone out there ever experience that the 4WD does not function(not yet confirm which part) but the other day when got stuck, push on the 4WD button but no light indication on the dashboard. there is also a feeling that the 4WD does not engage.
Appreciate if anyone can share or know something about this or even direct me to where to look for the cause.

If you push in the button when stationary it probably won't move into 4WD until you start moving. Try going into R then D a few yards each way. That should do it. If not, then you may have problems with the vacuum connections on the front transfer case. Also try moving it into 4L with the small lever and see if it drops into 4WD then.
