Can someone tell me is it standard for surfs to have two batteries?
Had this a while back on the old forum. Think the outcome was something like the 3.0s always have 2, but it was an option on the 2.4s. I'm sure someone will correct me if that's wrong!

So if they come with two batteries as standard does that mean they have a split vharge system wired in as well?
Jonnyboy.
The standard (optional) twin battery setup on the Surf is not a split charge system. It actually parallels the two batteries together for higher current on the starting circuit. It is still a 12V system though unlike the twin battery system on some Landcruisers which is 24 volt.
If you already have twin batteries and want to convert to a split charge starting and leisure battery arrangement, you would need to change one of the batteries to a leisure type deep cycle one (Something like an Optima Blue). You would probably want to have a high current starting battery as well.
There is quite a lot of wiring involved in putting a split charge system in but if you are running a lot of add ons like fridge, TV etc then it would be well worth it.
