crap brakes

the last couple days i have noticed that some times when im braking the brake pedal seems really hard but the brakes are not good at all i have to press very hard on the pedal to stop,this happeneds no matter what speed im doing, i had new pads fitted a couple of month ago and every thing has been fine until lately, is this any thing to do with the fact that my belts are quite slack i have noticed,any ideas would be welcomed

What's the condition of your disks, are they worn down too thin, or maybe they need deglazing? ( rub the surface of the disks with fine emery cloth and wipe them with cellulouse thinners)
Or you got a vacuum leak at the servo.

I'd check the vaccuum servo assist too.
