  • Front Tow Ball

    Hi Gang,

Just wondered has any one fitted a FRONT tow ball to the front of their Surf and if so where did they mount it?

I dont want to go fitting a winch bumper or anything. It would be just handy when launching and recovering my boat as it is quite light!

    Any Ideas??

    Thanks

hi m8 i made my own for launching my jet ski when the beach gets a bit packed it makes life easy, also sometimes i tow one with the rear and push my mates from the front i get a few funny looks and a few mutted words from other jet skiers on the beach like" now thats just showing off " but hey it does the job for me !!!

        i made it out of 50 x 50 box section and 50 x 50 x 6 angle..
and if you want to make it in to a receiver bar so you can remove tow ball at your discression you will also need some 40 x 40 x 4 box section as this will slide in and out of the 50 box section just right!!

if you would like more info i could get on my back tomorrow and take some size,s and may be photo,s if they will be good enough as it is tucked away underneath the bull bar an plate.

let us know if you want the info?????

            Hi,
I used to use a front tow hitch very often fitted to a landy for lowering boats down / pulling boats up a slip on the Clyde coast. My point ? Make sure you position your Hitch right in front of drivers seat viewpoint IE Fitting onto bumper mount thence into end of the offside longitudinal chassis member on your surf would be ideal. Why Offset like this ? Well, it made it a damn sight easier to line up the boat's prow coming out of the water with the towing dolly, thats all. As an aside, also treat all the metalwork with anti rust FIRST, save your surf, sea water is very salty - read corrosive after some little time.......

Good fortune, I had some great times.

A friend of mine had a tow ball fitted on the front of his car purely for parking his caravan in the drive. If you have ever tried to reverse a caravan or trailer you will know it isn't easy but with the tow ball on the front it's a whole lot easier.

Be careful - a big set of balls can be acquired by lifting the caravan onto the tow hitch !!
