Veg Oil Conversion Kit Fitting

Guys, I know that a few of you are interested in this so here's an overview of the fitting. Or at least it would have been. The file (word doc with loads of embedded pics) is over 700Kb and the site won't allow me to upload it. (Unless Koi can fix it so that I can!!!!)

Only had her out the once. Worked fine then, but was only out for a 10 mile spin. Internally the car is still in bits - dash off and wires everywhere. Have just fitted some door speakers, remote central locking and a few other bits and bobs. On the verge of fitting towbar and new rear shocks and uprated springs. Methinks it will be a little while before I have her back out on the road in anger.

Am I correct in assuming you installed the diesel start up tank in the rear load area? If so where was it vented to (presumably outside the truck) and do you know if this is legal? (I had heard that the tank had to be outside the passenger/load area)

Not trying to be awkward but I'm halfway through sorting this out for my truck and if the tank is legal in rear load area that will save lots of problems!

Hi Linda,

I've kept the original tank as the diesel tank, and then bought a 69ltr tank for the veg oil. The veg oil tank is in the load area, and yes, I've had to sacrifice space in order to do that. The vent pipe goes from the tank along with the fuel transfer pipes and then vents to to the rear under the back.

All that said, I'm sure that the guys at www.dieselveg.com suggest having a much smaller diesel tank inside the load area, and then using the original tank for veg oil - as you are suggesting Linda. Might be worth a check on their site or mailing them to see what they have to say - they've been very helpful when I've had any questions to ask.

Long term, I'd like to fix the tank under the load area (loads of space there) and fitting a proper filler pipe and cap etc. My biggest concern with this would be the increased exposure of the veg oil tank to the cold (especially in winter). Would maybe have to fit some kind of heater to the tank. Any thoughts on this would be welcomed.

Quick Update

Just thought I'd let folks know how things were going.

It's taken me a few weeks to get the beast back on the road - I've been fitting a towbar and uprated shox and springs at the back, which I could only work on in spare time at weekends. But, I'm back on the road again.

I've done about 400 miles this week on pure veg oil and am well chuffed. No loss in power or performance. A little early to tell if the mpg has gone down but at this point I don't think it has. The engine definitely sounds quieter and smoother. Smells like a BBQ now! (Anyone know where I can get essense of fried onions - would make an interesting addition to the smell!!)

All told, I'm well pleased.
