Had mine in for a service today and asked them to check this noise out. The reply was not to worry about it. But I think I'll follow up the bronze bush theory.
Interestingly, the loan Surf that they gave me for the day made the same noise - and yes it goes when you select 4WD. Must be pretty common I think.
Kev

Anyone got any pics of these bushes? And how do you get to them?
£25 - £30 for some bronze bushes??????? I hope they're not phosphure bronze bushes at that price! Does anyone have the size of them 'cos they're bound to be cheaper at places like BSL.

Yeah they are LOL, Milners ones cost about £9 each, and the others from Toyota which i'm changing just in case are .............................. .............................. .............................. .............................. ............................ab out £24 each.........owch.......it'll be worth it in the end..
That's just crazy, not even flanged bushes are that price! I used to work for BSL, and I wouldn't be able to sleep at night if I sold 'em at the milners price........... as for Toyotas' price...!
If anyone can get the size of the bushes, then I'll give you the references so we can all get them cheaper! For the flanged type (or 'top hat' as some call them), I need the inside and outside, the length (incl flange), dia of flange and thickness.
Is there a section on this forum that gives us this info? For instance if we need wheel bearings and seals, what are the refs? I'll have a word with an old colleague this week and try and get some wheel brg catalogues off him!

£24?
They are top hats, and even have oil ways grooves in em.... If i get time ill measure them and take some pic's. Good job i used to be a detail draughtsman....lol....before i got booted out of Rolls Royce lol...not many plp get sacked from there!
Ok, my hubs are all apart having the new bushes fitted and the exsisting ones shown no sign of wear. So am i missing something??? Any tips on re-fitting the hubs with the new bushes?

Ok, new bushes fitted. And there seems to be no play now in the front drive shafts........ so hopefully its all gona be ok
Mine also makes the rattling noise - but I can only hear it with the window wound down! . The movement is along the splines - the solution is new inner and outer thrust bearings, I suspect. I need to get round to doing something about it!

i got a rattle from somewhere in the front when driving over bumps in the road and drains.been trying to avoid them cause the rattle is doing my head in.been underneath to look for rattle but cant find anything wrong.
any help would be helpfull.
thanks in advance for any suggestions.
its a 1995 model ssrx.3.0.manual model
thanks again
mark.
Noise has gone ! Looks like the inner needed changing only because the outer is only used for thrust. I'm sure Tony N would have something to say!!! I changed both, the outer being overpriced i think ........

Thats probably why Milners only do the inner ones.
