  • biggest tyres on a surf

What the widest tyre that can be fitted to a standard surf 1992 on standard surf wheels, the ones that are on there at the moment are Dunlop 265x70x15 and getting a bit worn out, they are more of a road tyre, I have a feeling the winter is going to be a bad snowy one, so am thinking of BFGoodrich TA's any other sugestions ?????

31x10.5 15 are the largest you'll get without any rubbing. dunno what that relates to in metric.

265/70/R15 was what I had, and replaced with 31x 10.50 15 BFG A/T's last week.

Metric sizes are harder to work out the dia, off in your head. You know a 31 is 31" cos thats its height, although they don't aways exactly measure 31".

Newer tyre dimensions are a mixture of metric and imperial quantities, e.g. 245/80 x 16, indicates a tyre carcass width of 245mm, an aspect ratio of 0.8 or 80% and a wheel rim diameter of 16"!

265/70 seem to work out about 30 1/2" high and 10 1/2" wide, on a online tyre calculator, so its about the same.

Is that with the tyre fully stuffed up the wheel arch and on full lock? probably OK in the street, but offroad it should rub. Luke had 32's, 2" body lift and still had to alter the front bumper.

31x10.5x15 ..... I was thinking of fitting some of these on some spare rims I have in the garage - but I think they will stick out past the wheel arch on my narrow body surf. Whats the legal view on that , I thought they weren,t allowed to protrude... but someone else told me 10% is allowed.
Also as they would be mainly offroad use , I,m not too bothered but do they affect the speedo or gearing , my original tyres measure 28" ?
                        Thats a 3" increase.
Seem to think codlord did this mod ?

Got 31X10.5X15's on my narrow body and they don't stick out at all. BTW, the legal situation is that if any wheel protrudes beyond the arch it's illegal. As to the speedo thing, if you go to 31's then the speedo will read 8% slow.
