That picture is the gearbox. Engine sump is in front of this in front of the crossmember. It's a 14mm sump plug I think (maybe 12 can't remember at this point) sits proud of the sump rather than being recessed.

    Hope this Helps

            thanks for that.
so am i right in saying, run engine for a wee bitty to warm oil,
bucket under sump, undo sump drain oil away , remove filter, when stopped draining, replace sump bung, fit new filter, add oil and wynns oil treatment, go for short drive, top up oil.
            and keep clean in process.
have i missed anything as im a under the bonet virgin here. TOTAL virgin.

                  You're as well checking!

Good idea checking. I unwittingly drained my gearbox oil a couple of weeks ago!!! Thought that the oil felt thin as it ran over my hand! Doh!!

If its a copper washer around the sump plug then you shouldn't have to change this, but if its one of the nylon ones then you'll be better off changing that as well. And watch that you dont drop the sump plug in the old oil as you'll find your arms quite black digging round for it if not changing

You might need a filter strap to get that off. I did mine last week and it was solid, so I ended up hammering an iron bar through the filter from the top of the engine to get it moving, which is messy, but easy enough.

Als, you do know about having to take the plate off the drivers side wheel arch to get into the filter ? I think its just a few 10mm bolts.

You might also want to find something to put under the filter when taking it off as oil will go everywhere otherwise.

didnt know about having to take of any plate. i can easily get to the filter from the engine but if its welded itself on will i have to go in via wheel arch? while i was underneath trying to suss this out i found one of my bushes on the rear roll bar was non existant so that looked easy enough so changed that over with new one. so oil can wait till monday as i wont fit under her on sunday after all me eggies!!

Instead of all this dirt and misery...

why not fit a nice toilet paper remote filter like the Frantz or Motor Guard? You can run lines to whatever location is most convenient under the hood (NA english for "bonnet") No more pricey and inadequate filters to buy, you just change the toilet roll every 3-6K (depending on your inclinations) and top up the oil. Your oil will stay like new indefinitely. No, it's not BS, the technology has been around for 40 odd years and the results have been verified by lab analysis thousands of times. One on the fuel line is also a very good idea. Do a Google search and you'll see. [Ignore this post if this has all been said before here]

You really think someone that titled the thread "where is the sump" is gonna even think about running oil lines and after market filtering systems?
