jacking points

due to the arrival of 4 nice new mud tyres and steel wheels i will need to jack up my 93 2.4 2nd gen to change the wheels, i have a hi-lift jack but i was wondering, where is it safe to apply the jack to get sufficient lift?

Hmm - unless you've got strengthend sides I wouldn't bother. Better off doing it with either a bottle or trolley jack

dont have a trolley jack, and how would i support my car witha bottle!!

Assuming you genuinely didn't know he meant a bottle jack, he meant a bottle jack.

You'll get plenty of lift with a decent bottle jack. Mine is a 4 tonne 387mm lift Draper one. Plenty of lift. €30 or so.

Suggest either the front wishbones or rear axle as the safest bet both for you and the Surf!

At the front I jack at the joint between the crossmember just fwd of the front diff and the lower wishbone. At the rear, under the diff.

Are you sure you havent got a surf jack hidden beautifully under the rear seats.

Doubt the hi-lift jack can reach in under to the chassis unless you've also bought rock sliders and few have

Have a look under the rear seats, the bottle jack normally lives under there.

and for the record - i was not going to attempt to balance my truck on a bottle - milk, coke, beer or otherwise ;-)

was hoping i could use the hi-lift - just wondering where best to support it. but ill make do without for now

There is nowhere to put a Hi lift on most 4x4s, unless you have the type of tow hitch that has a bar sticking out under the bumper.

Otherwise you need decent steel bumpers each end or sliders instead of side steps.
