  • Noise on startup from cold and when accelerating

Hiya, i noticed a noise over the last few days when i first started my surf up on a morning in the cold, it is what only can be described as a scarpering noise from the engine bay bulkhead area. Sounds weired i know but thats how it sounds, it sounds like a cat has been asleep under the bonnet and when i start up it runs like crazy scratching its nails on the floor as it runs away. Any how i noticed it today when i was setting off on a steep hill and when accelerating hard on a straight road. Its a long shot but any ideas guys,

    cheers scottidog

Could it be a slipping belt? I was about to start a new thread as my PAS belt squeals whenever the steering is on full lock.
    It's only a hobby!

      no

my first thoughts exactly, but no i have looked under the bonnet this morning and got the wife to start her up, its from the rear end of the engine by the bulkhead, really strange.

It could be the starter not disengaging, you need to find out if it's the top or bottom of engine where the noise is.

Yeah, I had that noise on recent cold mornings. like a cat in a spin dryer when moving at about 20-50mph. The noise seemed to come from behind the dash or bulkhead. I had recently changed the speedo face to mph and thought that I had kinked the speedo cable, removed the clocks to check but couldn'd find anything. Not happened again, but it hasn't been real cold since
