  • red rear reflectors

Has anyone sourced the red rear reflectors mounted on the rear bumper ? I have a UK 4runner, which has them, though am not sure if surfs do. I think that you are supposed to have some sort of red reflectors to the rear for MOT. One of mine has been ding-ed, and is now crumbling...and it's MOT tomorrow...

The main dealer quoted me £20.07 for one. It sounded like he had a straight face, but i don't know how....

Get a rear bicycle one and remove the bracket, stick it on with some double sided tape. It will get you through the MOT until you can find one. Did this when the reflector in the rear lens cluster on my Surf had a hole in it, got me through the MOT untill I got a new lamp cluster. Cost me about 2 quid.

    Cheers

      Now there's lateral thinking...

Cheers, m'dear, i wish i'd have thought of that...my best idea was a trip to halfrauds, not much of a winner.

That's where I got my bicycle one from in the Halfords Bike section.

Cheers and good luck with the MOT

          Reeeeesuuuuuuuult !

Dropped off 'turbotommy' at 8am, got call at 9am that had passed MOT, no probs. Yay!

They mentioned a little play in the steering idler, but not enough for a fail. And they didn't mention the crumbly reflector, i suppose that about half of it works...(or they forgot to check...)

Not bad for a 9 year old...And last time it only needed a track rod end.

Now, where can i get a 'geniune' reflector so that it's looking neat again?

Probably the only way is to spend the children's inheritance at your local Toyota Stealer or a scrappy although you are unlikely to find a runner at a scrappy, maybe some other Toyota or another make may have the same - maybe a Rav 4 or something like that.

            Cheers

MMMmmm, not sure. The particularly worring thing would be that this reflector is on the bit of the bumper that seems to always take a hit as others practice their parking skills. Sticking a 20 quid bit of plastic there is tempting fate too much. It seems a pretty stupid place to have put it in the first place, a shame, since a lot about this vehicle is well designed.

I'll have a nose aroud some other toyota jalopies, though most rear light clusters seem to incorporate the reflector bit. I suspect this was ommitted from the 4runner/surf, as it was never designed for this country...

Kids inheritance ? They've inherited my fantastic looks, planet sized brain (reflector ideas notwithstanding), charm, wit....they don't need money...
