  • help please !- wobbly rear propshaft

still trying to sort out shaking 4runner.
got a set of completely different wheels/tyres on - still does it,
so have ruled out wheels and tyre problem,

i just had another go at looking at the rear propshaft. I used a jack agasint rear prop flange to take up slack from diff, and found rear prop u-joint has play, So reckon I need new U joints

I also found rotational play in the yoke&sleeve bit of this prop, towards the front, ie that telescopic bit, there was a slight clunk when i rotated the main prop (sleeve), whilst holding onto the telescopic bit (yoke?)-
could that also cause vibration problems?, and how would I sort that out?

      That would do it.

Suggest you fix the UJ first - its lateral play that is giving you your problem - not rotational play so that may be all you need for now. www.milneroffroad.com will have the parts.

A general point - unlike most cars Surf's have loads of grease nipples in the transmission department and they need greasing - especially if you go offroading. Check out the card in the sun visor. These will last the full service interval under normal road use but should be re-greased within hours of any serious offroading to force out any water or grit that has got in.

      Cheers
