  • Gen 3 4wd fault

    I have recently developed a fault;

The 4wd light just flashes on the dash when the 4wd button is pressed.
I checked the vacuum and that side of things is fine, I can get the 4wd to function if I switch the vacuum pipes over on the actuator.
The fault seems to be that there is no power to the blue connector that operates the vacuum to engage the actuator.
Also the power is constantly on to the orange connector, meaning the 4wd is constantly disengaged.
I have checked the wiring, checked the function of the switch on the front actuator. All working fine.
The switch must work fine as the light only comes on when the switch is pressed.
Anyone got any pointers?? or even better anyone got a wiring diagram?

I tired it for about 1/4 mile. Even tried reversing. No joy.
I'm hoping it's just one of the switches on the transfer case. I'll be checking tonight.

Switches all working fine. Still no feet to the blue plug to actuate the 4wd.
        Any more suggestions?

Try knocking it into "N" then back in to "D", possibly "R" too - sometimes needs a little encouragement.

Is front tail shaft engaging when you press the button?

            Nev.

I have tried that numerous times unfortunately, no joy

No nothing. It will engage when I switch the vacuum hoses on a actuator, so I know that working.

If you press the button and the front tailshft still rotates, then the problem is probably the shift motor on transfer case. This has to be working to move the shaft inside the transfer case to activate the switches, which then operate the VSVs for vacuum.

                  Nev.

                    Is the motor serviceable?
Do you happen to have any information on getting at it?
                    Thanks

The LN and KZN130 are but I am not sure if the later model differs. Usually they get water and dirt in them because the breather hose for motor comes off, or cracks. This causes corrosion in the motor and contacts. The breather only goes to top transfer case so deep water is not recommended either. Get someone to press the button while you get under and listen if it's working. It is on rear of transfer case.

Do a search here for shift motor.
