  • Alternator connections

I have the famous 'Christmas tree lights' on the dash (timing belt/battery/fuel filter/ transmission fluids), albeit dimly. The Surf had had a new alternator when I bought it a month ago (and it looks new). Car starts and runs OK, and charges (just into the 'normal' zone - it was higher).

I've discovered a big white cable hanging down behind the alternator that seems to belong in a rubber shroud on the back of the unit and it looks as though it's come off because it's corroded through. If I'm right, can someone tell me how this is supposed to be physically connected? Or ideally, provide a picture/illustration?

That cable should be connected to the threaded post on the side of the alternator, there should be a ring terminal on the end.
It's the main cable that goes to the battery to charge it.
