  • Speedo dead after huge downpour

After a large deluge of rain, the speedo doesnt work
This only happens when the engine is cold and after 3 mins driving normal work resumes
This doesnt seem to happen if i steam clean the engine (several times in past few weeks trying to pin point a fuel leak!

Any clues as to what might be getting damp?

It might not be due to the rain.
Heat from behind the dash (when the engine is up to temp) might be expanding the printed circuits on the back of the cluster and making an intermittant contact to the speedo head. Them when cold the tracks shrink slightly causing a dead speedo.

The speed sensor for the speedo is on the transfercase, driver's side, black plug with three wires coming out of it. It may have gotten wet causing a speed signal fault.

quite common to have dry joints and corrosion on the circuit board. fairly straight forward to fix.
