Replacement radio cutting out and distorting

Hi, hope someone can help.

Just had a mate swap out the jap radio. It now cuts out intermittently when in radio mode. When connected to iPod it does not cut out but the speakers distort at normal AC/DC levels.

I know nothing. Any ideas.

Who makes the speakers distort the most, Bon Scott or Brian Johnson?

Possibilities :-

1) It's crap.
2) The level from the iPod is too high and overdriving the new radio input.

Do any other sources distort at the same level?
Did the old radio distort at the same level?
