  • Rear Window Key Switch Faliure

As per the title the key switch on my rear window has stopped working correctly.
With the key you can wind the window up but not down.
    The switch inside works fine.

Any pointers to a fix greatfully appreciated

I got this intermittently. Shortly after the window motor started failing. May or may not be related. Can't tell you any more as mine is currently off the road.

      Hi Rob
The motors fine. I was running the window up & down with the console switch.
Hoping someone has a quick/easy fix for the key switch?
May even toy with the idea of making it remote as you can get to the wiring easy enough but the motor is in the way for getting to the fixing bolts

      cheers

I had the same problem. I found it was the tracks a the printed circuit board behind the key switch. One half of the track had worn away. I made one up, and it was fix. I posted the details here under this section. My original post showing how I did in was in October (11th I think) - this may help you find it.

          Hi Diysurgeon
          Thanks for the info.
I tracked back through your previous posts to find the thread.
It looks/feels I have the same issue.

Can you remember how you got the lock barrel off?
I can see some brass nuts to one side of the lock barrel housing but it looks like the motor is in the way to get anything in to undo them

          Thanks

Some photos here to show what the switch looks like and how it's secured in the tailgate...

              Thanks Bushwacker
I have taken a look at the pictures and I think mine looked different.
It probably has some kind of cover over it.
I need to have a proper fiddle about

              Cheers

Yeah it's a rubber dust cover, just pulls off.

                    Hi Steve

I can't quite remember, but I think there is two nuts to undo and out it comes. A little bit of a fiddle due to access. If I get time tomorrow I will have a look. I won't promise but I might have a spare printed circuit as I made up six in one go. I have given a few to members of this forum. If I can find them, your welcome to one.

                        I've got the lock out.
                        2 x 10mm nuts to undo.
Perhaps didn't need to take the barrel out as its the yellow plastic switch at the end where the trouble is.
This just clips over the end of the cylinder.
More difficult to unclip the wiring connector.
How many types can they use on one car?

Anyhow stripped the switch down and it looked ok.
Cleaned the contacts up and tried it back in the truck.

                        It didn't work!

You can hear the relay click when you turn the key to the up position but nothing for down.
At least now it's out I can check the wiring

Well while her indoors has been watching Suits I've got the circuit tester out and checked the continuity.
I have a good circuit at the switch which means the problem ain't the key switch.

Next port of call is the relay, I can hear clicking when I turn the key but I don't know where it is.

The switch on the centre console still works the window both up & down so where to go next????????
