Rear Speakers Wont Work On Cd

Had this problem for a while now radio works on all 4 speakers ok, when switched to CD only the front speakers worked checked balance & fader etc to no avail i have a SONY CDX-CA700 Single din unit. after playing about today i noticed a button marked AF so i pressed it & eh presto rear speakers came on with CD instruction manual had no mention of this. So im now a happy chappie BOB THE BUILDER never sounded so good ! LOL

AF is auto frequency, part of the rds system... could have been stuck on TA (traffic announcement) and this was muting the sound???...

Cheers MATT i also fitted 100mm Kenwood dual cone speakers in the front as the old ones were popping a bit. it now sounds really good.

Had The Same Problem With My Single Din Sony Unit, Front Speakers O.k. But Not Rear....pressed T.a. Button For Traffic Alert At The Back One's Came Into Life. Halfords Recon They Have The Same Problem With Land Cruisers When You Change To A Non Toyota Unit.

I've had this problem also - have you found that the aerial stays up with TA on?

Ideally I'd like it to stay down when I'm playing cds, as I don't listen to the radio that much.

Does anyone know if the remote wire from the head unit can be used to control the rear speaker amp to get round this?

Try turning traffic alert off..................then play a CD , should stay down then, its staying up cos you are wanting traffic alerts through the radio.

I can't remember which of TA / AF I usually have on, I'll check it out later and see if I can get the rear speakers to stay on and the aerial to stay down when a cd is playing.

thanks to you all, just got my rear speakers to work when playing a cd by pressing the af button. sounds fantastic.

Its funny how i fixed it everyone seams to have had this problem. You learn something new everyday.

I had a look before - with TA or AF on, the rear speakers work fine but the aerial also pops up.

Anyone know which wire on the surf controls the amp in the back?

Yes - the rear component speakers have a separate amplifier which appears to be connected to the electric aerial in some way, as it only comes on when the aerial is up.

They are 2 Ohm as well (just reminding everyone who wants to replace them with something else)
