  • No side, tail or dash lights

    Hi
Just exchanged my 2nd gen for a 3rd gen with some mods, after 24 hours i`m up against my second problem its as the title says. I`ve got the headlights but the rest dont work, its going dark out there now so going out to look is a waste of time, does anyone know if the side, tail and dash lights have a fuse in common ?

Yes, in the fusebox by the driver's knee. I think it's marked 'gauge fuse'.

Nope its not that or any of the ones in there tho there`s no middle fuse on the left (acc)and there`s a fuse on the top left where it says there isn`t one on the box lid

Did you try it in the acc hole?

Could be at the switch end. There's a couple of multiplugs under the steering column shroud, maybe one of those is unplugged?

The guy i got it off said he replaced a fuse but it was one under the bonnet.
Dont really think this is relevant but you never know with electrics, the spotlights dont work the handbrake light is on constantly as is the airbag light, Turning into a bit of a disaster this new car but it`ll be ok if its all trivial. Further exploration will have to wait till tomorrow, its dark, wet and almost time to hit the sack for me but keep any ideas coming and i`ll give them a try
              Thanx

I'm pretty sure the tail/side light fuse on a turd Gen is under the bonnet, not inside like a proper truck, but havn't got one here to check on ATM.

Shame you're so far away, I'm sure the truck has just been attacked by a numpty and just needs all this fiddly crap sorted out by someone familer with the truck.

The SRS light is the only thing that could cause headaches, and only if you want them to work

The air bag light can be switched off via the OBDII port if you can get hold of a code scanner like mine.

If the airbag light stays on then it suggests that the steering wheel has been off at some point, so I'm guessing that there's some wiring issues behind the column shroud.

You know, I've been meaning to ask since you first posted pics of yours where you got it from as I really need a better tester.

                    Ta,

How is this for a theory
When i went and had a test drive the airbag light wasn`t on and the steering was fine, didn`t check the side lights but lets assume they worked
Now the steering is unpredictable to say the least, the electrics are going weird possibly from somewhere along the steering colum and the srs light is on possibly indicating someone has had the steering wheel off.
A good few things going on there and at a stretch they all point to something going on in the steering department in the gap between me test driving it and picking it up

Hmmm, I wonder if the bolt on the steering shaft splines was loosened at the steering wheel end to adjust the length of the shaft for the bodylift, and hasn't been re-tightened, the shaft has moved a bit and is now rubbing somewhere.

Noticed a few more things not working today, clock, mirrors prob all related to the fuse problem. put a fuse in, it blew, turned the lights off and put another in, when i turned them on it blew, seems like its in the lighting circuit but i`ve put that on hold till the steering is sorted or i take the man up on his offer to give me the cash back. Its going in a 4 x 4 specialist tomorrow for an assessment, just looking at the price of the tyres, bumper ect not to mention the lift its got to be worth a try but i know its gonna mean buying parts cos its not the fluid

Didn't your Surf used to belong to Relentless.

He advertisedl it here, and your dealer bought it off him.

He did post a phone number, unfortunately he has deleted that post, but I wonder if someone here has it. If so you could ring him and ask if he has any ideas. He seemed a nice guy, and he had owned your Surf for years and done the mods himself.

Really tho' I think you should take it back to the dealer, and if he can fix it, OK, if not, then it's money back. As it stands it's not roadworthy, and you paid top dollar.

EDIT - I see relentless has deleted all his posts and left us, but Google has cached his posts - here is the one where he advertised the Surf with his number and email:

The worrying bit is where he says the tyres rub on the chassis????!!!!
