Well after 39 years it's now been confirmed,

I am a bonafide NUMPTY!!!

Yes the window lock was on!!!!

I was about to start pulling it to pieces to find the problem!! Thanks for that.

better to be a numpty before spending out on it or ripping it apart than spending on it and then ripping it apart only to find the lock button was on
