What's a CDS fan?

Next to the main fuse box under the bonnet of my 1993 2nd gen Surf, there's a smaller box marked "CDS fan" containing two relays and a fuse.

What are they for? Searching the net just results in millions of hits for compact discs (CDs), and this forum's search engine ignores CDS because it's too short.

I could be completely wrong here, but I think they are for the air con fans.
Think I read it somewhere, in the last six years.
