  • Heater fan and aircon not working

    Hi,
Having owned my 1990 2.4 Surf for many years now I didn't expect to come across a problem I couldn't solve, however this one has got me really stumped. We had a rare warm day a couple of weeks ago so I thought I would see if the air con still worked and bugger me it did!! i was driving along chuckling to myself when it all stopped working, little light went out on the aircon switch and the blower stopped, must be a fuse...nope, all fuses behind the glovebox OK. Now the blower fan has only worked on high for a couple of years so I knew the resistor pack was duff, I took it out today and it came out in pieces!! My question is....can the resistor pack stop the blower fan from working completely? if not has anyone got any ideas as to why the aircon and the blower fan should fail together?

    Hi old timer!

Areen't there other fuses in the footwell or the engine bay fuse boxes for the fans? I'd go and look but it's pi$$ing with rain here...
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

Thanx but there are no fuses for the blower in the usual fuse boards, ie under the bonnet and the drivers footwell, this must be my payback for having the best weekend off roading for yonks!!!!

For the aircon to work you must have the heater fan running at some speed. If your fan is not working then your aircon will not work as one of the 12v feeds for the aircon ECU passes through the fan circuit.

Thanks mate, That confirms what i suspected that the aircon stopped working because the blower was no longer working, so the question is why has my blower stopped working completely, could this be down to the knackered resistor pack? Intrestingly I could find no 12v feed into the resistor pack from the multiplug that attaches to it when I tested it with a meter.

Have a look at this general circuit for Toyota A/C and check the heater relay and circuit breaker. It may be that the heater relay has failed.

Thank you very much for the wiring diagram, that will help a lot. I think you could well be right regarding the relay, the investigation will commence again tomorrow, thanks again for your help.

I have had the fan stop on my Surf a few times only to restart a few seconds later. Maybe I have a similar problem developing.
