  • PLEASE HELP - Electrical fault

Hi, I have a 1992 Surf SSR-X with a 2LT-E engine. Whilst driving it along it just cut out as if it ran out of fuel. It started again and drove fine. This happened again the next day, I left it for half an hour and it started again this carried on happening. I took it to the local turbodiesel specialist where it has been now for almost 6 months. The spill control valve has been changed and the voltage to the valve is 4 volts BUT the voltage back to the ecu is 12 volts from the valve on one side, the ecu was changed but still no improvement. The garage has now sid that its a wiring fault and not worth fixing any ideas would be appreciated.

don't know if this is relevant but had a similar problem on a clio a few years ago. Intermittant non starting. diagnostics showed nothing, AA checked it twice, changed sensors - turned out to be a break in the wiring loom.

have you checked for air getting in anywhere.sometimes the fuel primer can be the cause of air. Also when you release the fuel filler cap does it hiss and if so then the breather will be blocked. There is a small filter/valve on top of the fuel tank so you may need to change that. You could drill a small hole in the filler cap aswell to release any pressure in the tank

Yeah this is looking like the problem, I was just hoping that someone else had seen this problem before and may have a solution

No offence to you and your trade intended but how is he going to find a 'proper' garage ? I'm 35 and haven't found one yet.....

I've got a decent welder and a decent exhaust fitter but no chance of a decent garage.

Sadly it's a 'crap shoot' taking it to a random garage.

            Rob.

Does your truck have an immobiliser? If so, is it fitted properly?

As I said before, take the truck to a proper garage or a good auto electrician. My thoughts are that it's an electrical problem, but don't hold me to that as I've not seen the truck!

no, no immobilser. I've had the truck for 4 years with no real problems. The garage it's at is a 4x4/diesel specialist theyre working on surfs all the time but he's really stuck with mine

                      That is so true.....

My welder bloke is way past retirement but his phone just keeps on ringing... He's not allowed to retire..

I can mig weld quite nicely but this guy performs magic on old cars on oxy/ace and every mot bloke who's seen his welding has commented on how good it is...

It's a shame there's nobody coming up to take over from him...

                      Rob.

With respect "The garage has now sid that its a wiring fault and not worth fixing" doesn't sound like a 'Specialist' to me.

I know what you mean, He just thinks that it could cost more to trace the fault than the trucks worth

Nah. If it is an electrical fault, a good spark should find it reasonably quickly.

I'm 56, the best garage I Know is at the end of my drive!!
but the Surf won't fit. (time to build a car port I think.)
Not many garages, including dealers, understand 4WD at
the best of times, especially the Toyota A.D.D. I'm afraid.
When I get stuck I ask on HERE.
Think your problem is wiring to injector pump.

                              Gman
If it aint broke, keep goin' till it is.
