Replacing steering wheel with cruise control?

I want to fit a smaller, thicker steering wheel on my truck, because I'm fed up with my huge bus driver style wheel. Only problem is it's got the cruise control buttons on it.
I don't really want to lose the cruise option, so maybe I could relocate the buttons somewhere, or just fit some new switches on the dash...

Has anyone done this before? Is it even a viable thing to do, or am I stuck with pretending to be a bus driver?
