  • Name that switch...

I've got a switch which is to the bottom right of the steering wheel, next to the rear screen switch and has what looks like a diagram of an upside down fog light on it.

Its not in the manual. I'm sure someone knows what it does...?

Probably a switch added on import to control a rear fog light - the Surf is built for the Japanese market, and doesn't have a fog light fitted, so this has to be fitted to pass the MOT.

No, got a separate crappy switch for that. This looks OEM. Possibly a headlight height adjustment? Its an 'in/out' rectangular button switch.

Could be a switch to enable/disable your electric aeriel for the radio - for when you are listening to CD or tape, and don't want the aeriel sticking up.

It could be for front spot lights if you had them fitted

looks like a fog light switch that's been fitted upside down, it's probably no longer in use, could've been for front fogs/spots which are often removed when they're exported from japan.

Trace any wires behind it and see where they go.

It’s definitely the symbol for a fog light however the switch in that position on mine is there to make the suspension harder for towing heavy loads or going off road. It’s a rocker switch, down for normal up for hard. Maybe yours is a bodge replacement for a broken switch.

Mine's got the same one, it switches the front spots.

Yep, pretty sure it hooked up to some fogs/spots at some point. I followed the wiring back and found OEM connectors. Took a look behind the front bumper and found two disconnected two pin connectors either side of the rad.

Move the switch to the blank position next to it and found the shape of the hole meant the switch was miraculously the correct way up for fogs. There is also a fuse in the 'fog' slot in the fuse box.

Why the hell would they remove them?! Trying to find a photo of a 3rd Gen with fogs fitted, but can't...

As an aside, I have an adjustable suspension switch, but its on the passenger side of the centre console.

Thanks for that. I'm really annoyed now. Looks like the front bar must have been removed too. Grrr!!! They look so much better with them...
