  • foglight switch location

    hi guys,

can anybody tell me whether there is a specific reason why the rear foglight switch is put to the right of the steering wheel. i want to relocate it to the console over the trans tunnel. my surf has 3 switch locations here and only 1 is used. want to use the other locations for front spots, working lights etc.

Just wanted to know that if i move everything will the MOT monster get me come paying time.

    cheers guys.

Mine came with the fog light switch on the centre console next to the rear window switch, i've just moved it today to the right of the steering wheel, as i thought it would be better and made more room for my spot light switches,

      Strange, each to his own,

Ps there was plenty of cable on mine and i just pulled the cable back, so yours may just reach

the only reason for putting it up front is because there should be a visual warning on the dash for the MOT, an illuminated switch in the kinda dash area passes in general. An arsey MOT tester could fail on using a non-illuminated switch or positioning it where it wouldn't be obvious to the driver that it was on.

It just goes to show that it all depends what MOT station you go to, mine past all its MOT's with the switch in the centre console with no indication on the dash or the switch, the reason i changed things around was to make room for the spot light switches and i have been driving around for months with the fog light on.

I have a Mercedes 190E and the fog light tell tail is on the switch which is located right at the bottom of the dash by the drivers right knee. You would need to be double jointed to see it from the driving position.

I suspect that most of the Surf fog light switches are on the right hand side of the steering wheel as they were all done by the same company importing them. I recently changed the plug on my towing electrics and found the fog light was not connected to it. I traced the wire through and was pretty appalled by the way the fog light is wired on the Surf to be honest, plus there is a small chip in the plastic wood on the dash where it was drilled to fit the switch. It is blantantly obvious that it was not done by a dealer. Surely it wouldn't have been that hard for whoever fitted them to find a switch that looked a little bit like the Toyota switches already fitted and fitted it in an existing switch locating hole. It wouldn't have been that difficult to mount an LED indicator on the dash either, even mounting it in the clocks is relatively easy I suspect.

The importers are only in it to make money, so why spend 2 hours to do a good job with good materials when you can do a shite job in 1/2 hour with cheep materials
