Liesure Battery

Liesure Battery, is it on the right or left hand side as you look into the engine bay from the front?

I assume the liesure battery is on the left and the starting battery on the right as the starter lead comes from that one.

I know I'm sort of answering my own question but confirmation of what I assume would be appreciated.

Oh and before anyone jumps on the 'use the search function' I did ......... try typing battery, or liesure battery, in and see how many results you get (and still none of them tell you which side it's on).

AFAIK its neither, they're wired in parallel. If you want a leisure battery you need to disconnect and fit a battery management system.

aye, both batteries do everything, there's a big fat battery lead connecting both positive terminals together, runs right along the top of the slam panel by the rad.

Aye, but when I went to school they taught us I before E except after C. I tend to follow that rule today as well, hence my mistake. I am also aware that this rule is not written in stone and there are variations.

I consider my grammer, spelling and punctuation to be above average but hey, we all make mistakes!

Cheers Fordy and Nero, I was under the assumption that the second battery was a leisure one, don't know how I came to that conclusion?

I take it that some models only come equipped with one battery? Is the second one normally fitted for the 'winter pack' option then, or did I imagine reading that piece of info as well?

It all depends how your beast is wired! If you have a h/d split charge system, the Leisure battery is on the left side (kerb side UK). If you do not have the split system, then both batteries are used for everything. If you want to put a h/d split charge onto yours, then i can help advise on relays and such.. Standard towing relays are a bit weak.

Cheers Ian, but as previously pointed out I ain't got a leisure battery.

Sort of confused myself with my own interpretation of what the battery actually was!

I'm all kerfuddled now. Was supposed to get my starter motor reconditioned today but my 'assistant' with a nice warm garage was a no show. So it looks like another week of tapping it with a small hammer when it clicks (which it hasn't done since I bought the parts to repair it!)

It doesn't matter which one you replace to make a leasure battery. I'm replacing the passenger side one with a leasure battery. Not bothering with fancy automatic split charging relays, Going for the simple plan of a switch on the dashboard.

Theres a lot of rubbish about winter packs, bascially, every EFI diesel 2nd Gen Surf (2.4 and 3.0) has 2 batteries wired in paralell, and are basically one bigger capacity battery as far as the truck is conserned. Older Non-EFI trucks only have one battery unless they are 'winter pack' and the same for 3rd Gens.

I want to add a second... but am not sure about the mounts... are the second battery mounts bolted on, or welded as part of the shell when it’s built?

I like things like that to look as factory as possible

No problem Jim, as the other bloke said you could have told me to feck off although you wer'nt looking to fit a leisure battery the aus link is usefull in as much as it provides ya with a self jump starting back up as well as any leisure needs, (power wise) but if you dont have a fridge,camping stuff etc it aint worth the trouble, the two batterys you already have act as one biggun for cranking power and you can connect assessorys to either of em, do you suspect one of em then? thought you had newones, it's prob the starter fooked thats draining ya batterys, pulling to much amps,?

Should be easy enough to make up a decent looking plate and clamp if it aint already got a mount, dont know about the 3rd's but mine's just got two plastic trays that locate in two holes on two raised metal sections thats welded to the inner wings,
