  • Glow Plug Wiring conformation

Hey Gang, Ive been checking in all weekend as I reasemble my 2.4 TD.
I bought this unit with the engine in the back. Have had the short block done and Have succeeded ( hopefully) in getting it back into the truck.
I will be working on some brackets and wiring tommorow. I found this post on the site and need to know if his description is accurate, As I never took this truck apart and dont have one to look at for reference. The book i am using is weak, ( am downloading a manual from a link on this site, AWESOME!!!)

""I'm following this post as I have a similar problem - but I am confused.
My glow plugs do not work and there's a warning light on the dash which says there's a short circuit. I have just now checked to see if I've wired it up wrong but I don't see that I have (remember I changed the engine last month). The top part (on the inlet manifold) has blue insulator, metal strip to glow plugs, black coutersunk insulator, washer then nut; The lover one (on the underside of the inlet manifold) has raised insulator, wire with large hole, insulator with integrated washer, wire with small hole and nut.""
In the box of bits there is a black rubber with a metal cap and a small hole thru it IS IT realted to the under side wiring for the plugs?

If ANYONE has pics of things like the power steering pump in place or the alterantor or such That would help a load.
I have a couple of Black brackets that I dont recognize at all, ( they have a couple of diaginal holes at one end then 'V" out and bend and have slotted hook type bolt openings.

    Sorry that is a lot.

Whatever anyone can offer will be greatly appreciated

    Thanks Brad

    Hi, and welcome.

    Here's some links that may be helpfull;

    http://www.toyotasurf.asn.au/techsite/glowplugs.htm

    http://www.toyotasurf.asn.au/techsite/fuses.htm

I've been looking for some more, but can't find them.
I've downloaded various PDF's but can't find a way to get them up on here, but if you do some seaching, I'm sure you'll find something.

    Edit:

Ok, found this site by MattF, loads of stuff here, just download what you need.

I apperently need to get better at forums. Those are great finds!! Thanks for sharing them with me.

I will do more searching, The wiring that I am questioning is the wiring that is on the UnderSide of the Intake, But I suppose as long as it is insulated and only making contact with the terminal??

Thanks again for the response and info. i look forward to learning loads more about my Surf!

As a general rule of thumb, with any unit that has a single connection point with the ground being made by the body, the centre pin should be insulated in some way or form to prevent an accidental short of the centre connection to any grounding point. As long as the insulation is there and adequate, i.e: creates enough of a gap to prevent sparking too, your connection should be fine.

Download the engine manual for your model. Most things should be covered in there. The 2LT manual only has a couple of minor differences to the 2LT-E, namely the mech/electrical pump and a couple of sensors, if I remember correctly.

Thanks Matt, I certainly can go with basic electrical protocol. I was just hoping to get the right bits into the right places as it goes together. Toyota is pretty great at making things fit properly, was hoping to keep it that way.

(The lower one (on the underside of the inlet manifold) has raised insulator, wire with large hole, insulator with integrated washer, wire with small hole and nut."")

          Cheers
