  • A barrel of fun

    Hi All

Can anyone tell me why if I go to the on position and wait for the buzz and glow plug click then if I then start the van up it cranks for ages before going, but if I then turn it back to the acc position and then start it, it then goes ok.Is this wot you all do?

This seems a bit odd - is my barrel duff or is it me?

    Please help
    Julie

my glow plugs are new and I've checked the fuse.

If you wait for the relay to click (about 10secs or so on mine) then that could be the relay shutting off to prevent the plugs from burning out because you haven't started the car.
Turn on ignition wait for glow plug to go out then try, or wait for light to go out give it a few more secs then try. Basically of you wait to long the plugs are no longer heating and when you turn the ignition off and back on again you restart the heating process so it starts.
Say not always what you know, but always know what you say.

Thats makes sense but I always thought the click meant the plugs were warmed up but it could be as you say the relay shutting off - does that mean I don't get a click to say they're warm in the first place - thats not fair everyone else does

Mine doesn't click to say its warmed up.
Turn the key wait for light to go out or a couple of secs longer then start it, the only click I get is the one after 10 sec or so and if I wait for this it don't start to well.
So I don't get a click to say they are warm the light is suppose to be your indicator of that.

Firsty, I would like to give a formal apology to all forum users for having used a three letter word in relation to my surf (its so much more).

Many thanks to Koi for the explanation after 3 months of frustration the SURF went great last night nite and this morning- what a plonker I was never mind alls well that ends well.

Finally I have a last question , do I have to wait for the buzzin noise to switch on (previous owner said I should) and wot does the buzzin noise mean.

            Thanks
            Julie

The buzzin noise is there to remind you that it's about ****** time you turned the key to the next step.

I usually wait for relay click then start.Seems a little harder to start once buzzer sounds.

Mines not a posh Surf so I don't have a buzzer but believe its a warning to say oi you left the ignition on.
