  • electric sockets

    Hello,

    I have just bought a G3 surf SSRG 1999 3.0DT intercooled version.

Next to the idle up button there is a button with 110V AC written on it and on the other side of the steering wheel there is a two pin socket with the same label...can anyone tell me wht this is for?

Also, there are two more sockets with 12v/100w writen on them. One is below the cigarette lighter and one is in the rear of the boot. can anyone help with what these are/how they work?

    Thanks.

Finally, I have tracks on the rear section of the roof but no roof bars in the tracks, do I need to fit Toyota roof bars to the tracks? I have looked at thule/prorack and their systems all seem to require bars?

    Thanks

Sounds as if the previous owner has fitted an inverter... a device that can convert battery power to mains electricity (12v DC elec to 110v ac).

Sadly for you its 110 volts..the uk (and new Zealand ????) being 230 volts so most of your kit may not like it ...some stuff you own may accept 110vac i.e computer laptop power supplies etc maybe playstations etc but read the manuals...

Now this inverter device needs to get its 12v electricity DC input from somewhere, some people connect it directly to the vehicle battery but by the sounds of it the other connector marked 12v 100watt means that you need to connect another seperate car battery to this input to power up your inverter... but this is a guess you need to check it out, it might just be another 12v DC out from the vehicle battery.

Also.. its rated at 100 watts...thats its power rating that the inverter can handle so if you fire the inverter up be sure that what ever 110vac mains unit you connect to the inverter output does not need more than 100watts (most kit has its power requirements stamped on it somewhere)... hope that helps...

As above but also worth considering....
the 110ac socket has it got pins exposed or holes - ie plug or socket. This would give some indication if its an outlet or input. if it has exposed pins then it's more than likely to be an power input - and vice versa.
It may have one of those electric Kenlowe coolant heaters onboard which would require a mains input -although most people mount this inlet outside vehicle.
My guess is the two 12v sockets are just auxillary 12v outlet to power hand held lamps - compressors etc and have been done correctly by fitting their own fuse to limit load to 100 watts - you may well find a couple of odd fuse holders in engine bay.
      Everyone thinks I'm paranoid!!
