  • Rear window dilemma!

Window stopped working although motor could be heard running.
Guides all fine and greased up.
took motor off and it spun fine up/down directions.
Refitted motor but window not moving so I got new relays fitted to pcb.
Still the same, window not moving and motor still making noise but not moving window.

Do i need to replace the motor?
Can I use a motor from rear door window for the moment?

it sounds like the motor has gone.Yes you can use the motor from the rear doors. The passenger side will go straight in but the drivers side will need to be turned 180 deg's.A motor from a hiace,celica,mr2,corolla will also fit and the same applies to the motors in these motors as the surf motors

When you took the motor out did you open the large round section up and check the rubber bush has not just separated and just needs to be re joined back together. My guess is that's what happened and it worked fine with no load onit, was it struggling before it finally gave up, I used to have to help mine wind up before it died.

Search for this as there was a good write up on the repair

(not cost and only needs three self tappers)

      Cheers
      Mark

Brilliant guys, superb help as always. thanks for your time.

what you have described is exactly what was happening to my window.
I'll let you know how I get on.

I'll get motor out on friday and check driveplate.

I'll see what mine needs and I might be in touch.
by mech I take it you mean driveplate for motor?

other than this my rear window mechanics are in excellent condition, I grease em up twice a year.

I think I'll epoxy resin it overnight and drill it out for fixings in the morning.

i meant the part the motor bolts to the scissor that makes/attaches window to go up and down,if u do replace just motor,u need patience!put hand between, glass and the mech,u will be able to feel 3 8mm bolts that u will on get quarter turn on each to undo, took me nearly 2 hrs but it was well worth it!

I stripped the whole mech out in 15mins to check motor.
my brother yoshie helped me to move glass around and assist motor.
I suppose if motor was totally gone and you had no help it would take a bit longer.

Should hope so if you're married. Wouldn't be much of one otherwise.

If you need to do it again mate
Unbolt the 4 facing bolts, unplug elec cables, lock arms and cables and get scissors straight
Tilt the assembly up and slide the left hand bracket nearest the boot floor under the panel slide the whole lot motor scissors ect left out of window runner then slide right out of other end of runner.
You can then lift the whole assembely out motor, scissors, cogs ect as one unit. 10min tops mate
