  • 3.0L turbo light

    Hello Everybody!

From a junked 2L-T powered Surf I took the tachometer faceplate and accompanying circuit board and installed both into my 1995 3.0L-powered rig. I wasn't expecting this upgrade (to be able to watch the pretty green turbo light illuminate when I dropped my right foot) to come off without a hitch and evidently I was correct. I turbo light is on ALL OF THE TIME the ignition key is in the 'on' position.

My Surf, with 135K km on the clock, is in excellent condition. I can hear the turbo wind up when I hit the go pedal and, as far as I know, all underhood wires, hoses, etc. are good to go.

I am clueless as to how to get the turbo light to come on only when it should; ie when the motor is being asked to put out additional power for accelerating, hill climbing, etc. Any information will be appreciated.

"Three liter, please. Hold the turbo light."

Correct! The 3.0L was designed without a turbo light. However, since I want that visual reminder that my wagon is turbocharged I have two options: sell my present rig and purchase a 2L-T powered, turbo light-equipped Surf or figure out a way to add the light to my sled. I'm not a Mensa member BUT I do figure that I am far better off keeping my Surf and adding to same the green turbo light.

As I said, I added the tachometer faceplate that displays both the turbo and check engine lights as well as the tachometer circuit board. The last task is to get the light to illuminate only at the appropriate time.

could you not fit the boost sensor off of a 2LTE located near the air filter housing take off a feed from the boost side of your truck and then wire it in to yours just as in a 2.4 but in a 3.0 thats what i would do, i think there is only a few wires one live and one swich live and a simple continuity check would identify those wires you would need to connect best of luck.
