I have a question regarding these.

They claim to work plugged in the fag lighter socket, but

If the sockets dead when you leave the car how the wibble will they work ?

They come with a pair of crocodile clips so that you can connect it directly to the battery if needs be.

You could always plug it into one of those extra fag sockets that everyone wires straight accross the battery!!!
Yes! It's still in the garage. M1ROD

We've wired our socket live all the time, much more useful!

Silly idea how it is normally.

Indeed. I got one and from Maplin and then in the instructions it said (paraphrasing) "this doesn't actually work plugged into the faglighter". After a few half-arsed questions on here, I concluded that, yes, I was going to have to open the bonnet and walk all the way round to the front to put the crocodile clips on.

Seems to work fine though and, to be honest, the clips only take about 10 seconds to sort out.

You could always add a socket that LOOKS like a cigareet lighter, wired directly across the terminals, but label it "for charging purposes only"

You could get a bit smarter though...

By all means wire direct to the battery/s, but set it so that you always have enough ooomph to start the truck... This little beastie allows single dual battery systems to drop to 11.5v (single) or 11.2v (dual connected) before disconnecting the batteries from the load. I am currently saving up with the one for the fridge...
