How long should the glow plug light come on for??

I'm guessing that it is temprature controlled and on a timer depending on the temp??

    3rd Gen by the way.

No problem starting but my light only stays on for a fraction of a second.
I'm used to old diesels where the light stays on for much longer and have taked myself in to having a problem

Thats exactly how the glow plug light should be on a 3rd Generation.

Thanks for the answers guys – Although you have made me feel inadequate now because I haven’t got a beep.

Just read about that beep and tried it on my truck. Thats saved me £40 plus postage. I was gonna buy new glow plugs as it was lumpy on start up. It's perfect now when starting after the beep and relay clunk.

                Thanks chaps.

Makes a difference, doesn't it. If it's a really cold morning, waiting for the
beep then switchiing the ignition off and back on again and waiting for the
beep a second time will really make sure you start okay. I always give mine
                  two beeps for good measure.

I'm well impressed. I was even contemplating replacing my batteries to improve things when starting. I'll be giving it the "2 beeps" when it's seriously cold and the veg mix is thickening.

Yup MattF I do the same with mine and find that on cold mornings it really does the trick

                          That's just being greedy. A V8 and a beep.
