    Got a 92 2.4TD SSRG about a month ago.

Drove 300 miles on the day I got it and blew the head!

After a couple of weeks waiting to get it fixed (dealer sorted it for me no problem), I now have a problem with my aircon. It's only blowing cold air. Anybody have any ideas?

Isn't aircon only sposed to blow cold air??? :-p

If your on about the heater....usually although I have no experience of this in a surf but in the other cars i have had... check the thermostat... if its not working properly that can cause the heating to fail.....have the engine on and see if all the pipes are hot etc.....

    Hope thats of some help...

      I do mean the heater.

Any particular pipes I should check?

Well i'm no mechanic.. but if you get the engine up to normal running temperature, then whilst its running feel the coolant pipes around the engine, usually big fat black ones... they should all be hot i think.... if some are hot but 1 is cold etc.... that could indicate a problem with the thermostat...

As I say i'm no mechanic, but in my experience heater problems are almost always due to thermostat type issues in the engine bay, bar the heater matrix I guess...

Sounds like an airlock. Take it back to the dealer and get him to fix it otherwise if you don't get it right and the head goes again or something else then you won't be covered.

The Surf is notorious for getting airlocks if you don't fill it right and notoriously hard to get airlocks out of however the main thing is as follows.

When you fill the cooling system, make sure that both front and rear heaters are on, fill slowly with premixed water/antifreeze. Then start the engine and let it warm up with the radiator cap off occasionally squeezing the heater pipes (the ones that run through the bulkhead). Run the engine for about 10 minutes when it is warm before shutting down and refitting the radiator cap.

This should get all the airlocks out

          Cheers

Also top up expansion tank to correct level and check for a couple of days as some air is usually still in the cooling system and extra coolant is usually needed as it is used from the tank.

              Good Point.

Plus one thing I forgot to mention that some people do but shouldn't, apart from topping up in the above scenario, you should fill the cooling system from the radiator cap not from the expansion tank.

                ~Thanks guys.

Had a go with Andy's suggestion but not much luck. Rang the dealer who has offered to get their garage to sort it out (it was probably their doings anyway as it was fine before the head blew).

                Cheers
