  • Tune the ECU??

Anyone bought one of those ECU tuning programmes to run off yer laptop?

What ECU does a 92 2.4 surf use??? and can you plug and remap - anyone have any experience of it?

so, if a few pople got together to purchase said software, it spreads the cost and we could all upgrade cheap!

    any thoughts?

the surf has OBDI (on board diagnostic 1) only which is not really programable you can get kits that will tell you what is wrong with the car but that is more or less the same as the paper clip. OBDII is the newer version which I think is more programable.

I might have this wrong as there must be another way to get to the ecu to program it but i dont know how.

Generally, any ECU will use an EPROM or EEPROM for
storing the map data. Any programmer which covers
the specific chipset would allow you to read/write the
data. The awkward bit is knowing which bits to change.
Not something that I would like to chance. That's why
people specialise in this area. Generally, you would
also need to be proficient in the use of soldering
equipment, possibly SMD specific attachments being
required. Sockets aren't usually used in applications
like this due to reliability concerns.
