  • My check engine indicator comes on

Hi all. Need your help guys. My CHECK indicator comes on when ever I get on the motorway and my Revolution comes to the 2X. Engine slows down and indicator comes on. When I slow down machine to below 1X revolution the indicator goes off. Then if I go on slowly rising the speed to 80 KMph then it wont come on. I have got an Hilux Surf Turbo engine 2.4 L. And am from Mauritius.
    Can somebody please help me.

Does it make a difference if the Turbo light comes on. It sounds like how you are saying it is that when you accelerate slowly (which probably means the turbo doesn't come in) then you are OK but if you allow the Turbo to spin up then the check engine light comes on. If this is the case then the turbo wastegate controller or sensor may be faulty because the check engine light also acts as an overboost warning cutting in at just over 11psi.

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers

        Hi again.

First of all on my way back last night there were no problem at all, because I think that the journey home is down hill so there is no big demand on the van. Even the Turbo when started there were nothing from the check engine indicator.

Now this morning on my way to work I change the way of driving. From start to end I drive on very smoothly , accellerating smoothly etc etc. There were no sign from the Check engine indicator even though I was cruising at 80 kms and the Turbo was on.
What I can deduce from this is, usually as soon as I get onto the motorway I give a good accelleration to give the car a good momentum then I change the gears to 4 then 5 and this is where things went wrong
this is the exact time that the Check indicator comes on and keeps on if I keep on accellerating. It will go off only when I stop accellerating then if I do a smooth acccelleration then the Check indicator will not light up at all even turbo goes on.

Any idea what might be the problem?

        Thanks

The engine check light comes on when the ECU detects a fault.

This link will explain fault codes and how to check -

Under the bonnet on the drivers side, is a small box with a flip top lid. This is for the diagnostics.

With the ignition off, transmission in P or N, a/c off and throttle fully released, connect the terminals E1 and TE1 with a small piece of wire or a paper clip.

Turn the ignition to on and codes should be displayed on the instrument cluster with the little check engine light.

For the 2LT, the engine check light opposite the turbo light will flash, count the flashes to correspond with the codes.

To clear any codes either disconnect the battery or remove the ECD relay for one minute."

Here are the 2LTE fault codes:
              1 - Normal
2 - Turbo boost pressure sensor
              4 - Coolant temperature sensor
              5 - Correction resistance (Pump)
6 - Pump speed sensor (Pump)
              7 - Throttle position sensor
8 - Intake air temperature sensor
              9 - Vehicle speed sensor
              10 - Starter switch
11 - Switch sign (Vehicle not in P or N or A/C on)
12 - Timer control valve (Pump)
              13 - Crank position sensor

Not sure if these cover the later 3.0

                Fuse

With regards to the last message can I just says it would be safer to poke about in a diagnostic socket with a fused link rather than a paper clip, just in case you hit the wrong links might damage ECU ? use a low amp fuse this will blow instead of ECU. just a thought.

might it be a boost problem??but as i know you cannot touch the pump cause its electronic no? but mine has something strange cause diesel consumption is double than normal and when you go gas down from 1st gear (automatic) it shifts in 2nd and 3rd at 4100RPM. My friend has one same like mine but his shifts at about 3400rpm. anybody knows why?????

Hi, i have that problem too. I ran a wire accross the 2 pins in the diagnostics
socket and came up with 12 flashes on the engine check light. this apparently means the timer control valve is playing up. Does anyone know where this is located and what it does?

                        Thanks,

                        Guy (Email: discombe@eircom.net)
