  • My CD Changer won't operate!!

    Hi all!
Newbie here. Just bought my first Surf, 3.0Ltr SSRX. It's a Jap import.
What a fantastic vehicle! Congratulations to everyone who 'saw the light' before I did!!

O.k. My first problem. I have fitted, what seems to be standard factory fit in Japan, a normal Toyota radio cassette with a seperate Toyota CD player directly below it. The frequency range is from 79-90 FM, so can't get radio 1 etc.
In the boot is a Jap 6 CD changer, which says FM on it. The cartridge loads & ejects o.k. but I cannot for the life in me work out how to work it from the Radio or CD player!
The garage where I bought it from says that it is an FM Modulator type, but not sure which buttons to press to operate it.
There are no obvious buttons that change the mode to CD.
Is there a set channel that I should tune my FM radio to, which will then allow me to play CD's??
If so, could this frequency be different in Japan, hence the reason why I'm unable to set it here in the UK?

    Thanks in anticipation!

As you say it is an FM one so you should be able to tune into it on the radio station. The only way to do it I suppose is to play a CD and scan the frequencies on the radio.

If you want to get Radio 1 then you can get a radio frequency expander. You'll be able to get it but the displayed frequency will be wrong.

Milners do an expander for £14. http://www.milneroffroad.com/surf.htm

Most people on the forum have given up with the jap stuff, thrown it away and put a UK one in.

    Rich.
If life's an uphill struggle then downhill from now on can't be that bad?!

          Security Code

Might not be any help but I had a similar problem.

I had the standard double din CD and Tape unit and it would not function, tapes and CD's would load and eject fine, but nothing would play or operate and it just threw out the disk or tape.

Most jap Imports have the batteries drained or disconected during shipping.

The security features of the Unit had been activated, due to the break in electrical supply, and I needed a code to unlock it....I had a thick wedge of manuals and receipts with teh car... but as my Japanese is pretty poor I could not find anything remotely resmebling a security code.

I had to replace the unit as it was a chocolate teapot without a code
