Cable Run

OK, I'm planning on putting an amplifier in one of the rear cubby holes of a Mk 2. Just wondering if anyone had done this and had any advice on running the cables down the car / removing the necessary trim. I've found a rubber grommit through the bulk head so that bits not a problem but I don't want to have to remove any unnecessary trim.

Also looking at if its possible to fit some 6x9s I have knocking around anywhere without them getting in the way / looking a mess.

Any advice would be greatfully received.

Not sure about passenger side but if you take off the drivers and o/s passenger sill trim there is a cable duct underneath, which routes into the o/s rear panel. I assume that it is mirrored on the other side of the car. Good luck.

Find the warmest day to take the trim off. First time I did it it was 80deg+ and no probs. The clips were very brittle on a frosty day in February and I broke several.

Sorry.....my wiring has been put along side the transmission tunnel. So, down from the stereo, under the gearshift housing, past the rear heater and under the carpet into the boot and split either side going behind the rear panels. I have a 10 disc changer, and 2 amp, 1 bass the other 4 way for rear 6x9's and front components.......

The above information is also correct, but i don't think there's much room for big power wires etc...i could be wrong....

i got my cd changer down the pass side to avoid my rear spot light wiring down the drivers side.
you can pull the edge pieces off no worries and sqeeze round the seats and under the rear lastics OK

On the passenger side there is a cable duct that runs the length of the floor area (same on both sides). There is room between that and the sill to run upto a 4 gauge cable comfortably... any larger and you will have to go outside with some armoured trunking...

fitting speakers

If you look just forwards of the cubby hole where the existing speaker are, there is room for bigger speakers. I whipper the trim off, binned the existing speakers and housings and put in 6"kenwoods. There should be room for 6x9.

However I had to put a 10" by 7" approx piece of 2mm aluminium sheet over the plastic and then mount through the lot, because when I tried without it the whole lot vibrated horribly.

Looks and works OK though

Amp in cubby hole

Hi,
My 2nd gen surf has a 250W sony amp mounted in the passenger side cubby hole (it drives a sub) and a pair of 6*9's mounted about where the rear speakers were originally. I ran all the cabling through the existing cable duct that runs underneath the door trims and then sort of fished it through into the cubby hole. I would post pics but it's dark...and raining.
