  • Can't Get it up!

    Bet that got your attention!

I am having problems with my rear window and have searched most of the threads on the forum, but cannae seem to find an answer.
Basically I cannae get my rear window to go up.
The light on the dash is on and so is the cargo light that comes on when the tailgate is opened. When I try to raise the window either via the key or internal switch I get a Bee-Bee Beep noise.
Seeing as how the cargo light is on it makes sense to me that the problem probably lies with the sensor that works out that the tail gate is closed.
Does any one know where this sensor is?

    Cheers

    Rixtar.

Have you tried opening and then shutting the tailgate. Making sure that it is shut properly.

Is the lock button down ?

Is the rear carrier (if fitted) properly closed ?

Is the rear wiper properly docked ?

          Lock Button is down.

          No Carrier

          Wiper Properly docked.

Just spoke to a mechanic at Mackays in Edinburgh and apparently there is a micro switch that is attached to the door catches and is pushed by a small rod when the catches are properly closed, so one of the following is possible:
          1. Door catches not working properly (unlikely as they were OK when I got home last night)
          2. Wiring to one or both of the Micro Switches is loose or knackered
          3. One or both of the Micro Switches are knackered.

Short term solution will be to short out the Micro Switch.

Methinks it time for some exploratory surgery.
I shall let you all know how I get on.

Well it wasn't either of the Micro Switches (tested them with a meter) which is lucky as they are internal to the catches and to replace them would have meant a new catch.
Not the motor (put a small burgular alarm battery and window went up and down)
It was at this stage that another problem was found - the runners that grip on to the bottom of the window are rusted to F*ck and this must be causing substantial strain on the motor or its clutch, so the question does anybody have any spare for a 2nd Gen 95 M reg?
Still this doesn't explain the electrical mishap with the lights and the warning beeper, so it was now time to pull the side off the interior to get at the relay box (what a stupid place to put it by the way).
checked that the wire that sends from the micro switches in the catches is not broken by puttin a meter accross it and there was no problem.
Now was worried that the Relay Box was knacked, but upon wiggling the wires as they enter the the socket as it comes in noticed that the luggage compartment light flicked and when held in a certain position the window operated fine. Therefore need to check and replace the socket/plug and possibly the bit of the loom as it runs out of the Tailgate and into the main body. Was getting too damn cold by this point and my knuckles were already suffering from Spanner Rash, and the wife wanted to go out. At least I was able to secure the truck and make it watertight, but still have a fair bit to do.

If I manage to get the runners, does anyone know how I go about replacing these/ getting the old ones off the glass and off the mechanism and how to get them back on to the mechanism.

            Cheers

              Runners Sourced

Managed to order the runners from the Toyota Stealership in Edinburgh. They have had a lot of requests for these over the years for 4Runners.
New runners and the rubbers that sit in them against the glass were £48 inc VAT. Got them in next day.
All you need to do for an import is provide them with the model and frame numbers from the chassis plate in the engine bay.

Now must try and fit the blighters without breaking the glass.

Will take photos as I go along so they can go in the techie section.

              Cheers
