glow plug fuse

Ok, started having trouble the last few mornings starting the surf. Checked the glow plug fuse, blown, buys new fuse blown.
Now I don't know when the first fuse blew, could have been before i replaced the head could have been after?? What i do know is put fuse in ok, has permanent live to it don't blow. As soon as i switch on the ignition it blows.
Have replaced all four plugs and the fuse still blew so it wasn't the old plugs breaking down any more sensible non thread hijacking suggestions before i go and try to chase all the wires out.

Hi Koi,

The only other thing as you've replaced the glow plugs is the Glow Plug Relay. If the contacts are going open circuit then you will pull too much current and blow the fuse.

nigel, check the main power wire going to the glow plugs, it seems like it might be earthing out somewhere

There is an insulator on the glow plug rail where it mounts to engine.Check this to see if the rail is shorting out at this point.

I had exactly the same problem a few weeks back it occured when my head was replaced,the problem was the main Glow plug wire had been trapped between the manifold so it was earthing out causing the fuse to blow.

Thanks all for the replies, checked the rail it wasn't touching anything but wrapped insulation tape around it to totally eliminate it, but fuse still blew.
Think the trapped wire sounds good having replaced my head as well.
will also check the relay out.

Ok done it now.
It was connected wrongly after replacing the head.

Where the glow buzz bar is connected to the cabling the spacers were connected wrongly.
Blue spacer first, then buzz bar, then wiring, then black spacer then washer and nut.
Had blue spacer then black spacer then wiring then buzz bar then washer then nut then pop goes the fuse. So wiring was shorting out on inlet manifold.
Good job Andy came round cause we had another one to compare it to.
