Wiring for radio / aerial

Yes, I've looked at the diagrams in the top post. No resemblance to what is behind my radio!

I got a new MP3 player for Chrimbo, and having spent ages getting the dash off so I could fit it, I came across a few oddities.

The radio that was fitted was a cheap pile of cack that came with the car. NOT the original Toyota one. Only the front speakers are wired in. There doesn't appear to be any wires for the rear speakers. What colour should I be looking for? Were all models fitted with rear speakers? Is there a separate amp for the rears as I do seem to have a couple of blue / stripe wires with an impedance of around 2k ohm - this is possibly input impedance?

The other thing is - what colour is the electric aerial wire? I assume it is a switched +ve for the aerial relay? I dont seem to have any wires left over to do this, yet it worked before...

I do now have working MP3 player through front speakers only, but no aerial yet.

Maybe I shouldn't have done this on boxing day...

The rear speakers are active ones. The drivers are 2 Ohms but I guess that the resistance into the the input of the amp would be what you are reading. I would think if you looked with an impedence meter it would read 4-8 Ohms.

If the rear amps are still powered up and connected to the speakers, you should get a hum from the rears when you touch the wires with your fingers.

Come to think of it, I did get a click when I connected a 9v battery to them. (this is my standard means of finding speakers - checking there's no voltage on the wires first, obviously)

Oh well, off with the dash again next weekend then!

Presumably, if the rear speakers are active, then the amp is switched on by the audio signal on the line inputs? Where is the amp? Is it in the rear speaker box?

... thinking about it Phil, I'm not sure you'll get a hum because there wont be any AC pickup in a car to generate that hum - hopefully!

i had this prob lem and the rears are driven by an amp that neesd a pos feed to it the areil also needs two pos feed sto get it to work. if you want i will look at the drawings and let you know
