  • Aircon & Heater

    Hi All,

I aquired my Surf on Saturday, 2.4TD SSR-X, imported '93 in Grey. I'm quite pleased with the condition of most of it, and have spent most of the day fiddling and getting to know it a bit. The main problem that I have found is that the Air Con and all the heater switches appear to do absolutely nothing whatsoever :-( They look as if they should illuminate when depressed (but they currently do not), and nothing at all happens to the change in air flow. There is no change in engine note when the Air con is pressed, and no apparent cool air produced.

The Dash has a number of screws missing.... I imagine the guy who fixed the fan (I spotted that when I was buying the thing) was a little heavy handed!

Does anybody have any ideas of a quick fix or simple solution? I hoped that it might be a fuse, but have only found one fuse box so far which did not appear to be involved with the heater. Any suggestions gratefully received.

    Cheers,
    'Drew

There 3 fuse box's one in the kick panel by your right foot when driving, one behind the glove box you have to remove it to see it, and one in the engine compartment which should be the one you want

      Hmmm

Many thanks for your quick response.

The under-bonnet fuse box states: ECD, Dome, Head (LH), Rad Fan, Charge, Haz Horn, Head (RH). All fuses look OK, but none appear to be relevant to the heater controls - or is that ECD?

The fues in the RH footwell are: Engine, Ign, Tail, ECU-Ig, Fog, Wiper, Guages, Stop, Defog, Seat, Radio, Cig, Turn. Again, all look to be OK, and none appear to be fir the heater controls. I'm guessing that Fog is fog light, and de-fog is the rear window demister.

I didn't manage to get the glove box out, but with a good poke around from above and below I found a 30A fuse for the A/C fan. Again, this looks OK.

The only wiring that I can find to the heater controls is the connector to the fan switch (easily located through the gaping hole where the radio should be).

      All suggestions appreciated.
      Cheers,
      'Drew

Sussed the removal of the glove box, and located the three fuses tucked up on the LHS, Both OK. :-(

Thanks Marky. Yep, it is his problem... this time. Still, if I can sort it out myself (with the help of those more knowledgeable hereabouts) it's easier than being without the truck while he sorts it out.

          Cheers,

They may have left it unplugged when they fitted new speedo face.

All sorted now. The connector dangling in the gaping hole where the stereo should be was, in fact, the connector to the heater control unit.

That also explains why I have been unable to source a wiring harness adaptor to suit the heater control connector.... I have now located what I am now assuming to be the stereo adaptor underneat the lower, lower dashboard panel.
