  • Radio replacement

I want to replace the double din CD/Radio/cassette in my 3rd Gen Surf with a standard size unit but this is going to leave a hole - I'm led to believe that you can buy a 'pocket' to fill the hole so .......

Where can I get one of these 'pockets' ?

    Are they any good ?

How easy is the replacement ? (I know I'll need an adaptor for the wiring)

What sort of power can the standard speakers handle ?

    Cheers !

not too bad but dash has to come out to an extent

not sure but I have a 60w x4 Alpine unit with Bass Engine thingy and it sounds quite good (bear in mind I used to run amped components and 12" Rockford fosgate in my old car)

    Cheers !

Why I'm honoured... http://www.showmesome.info/hilux/workshop/ try this if you need help for the dash. You need lower/centre dash articles.

        Good luck!

I used a blanking plate instead of a pocket - also from Halfrauds and a bit of epoxy to hold it in place.

I have a spare ISO/Toyota converter cable if you are interested. You can have it for a fiver if you want it. Normal price is about £12.

Standard speakers are 10 watt. Benefit from upgrade especially in the front.

          Cheers

          Kev

Thanks for the info guys ..... and now some more information if you could oblige ...... does anyone know the Halfrauds part number for the wiring adaptor ?

I know I can get one from Kev (Cheers for the offer !) however Halfrauds are offering free fitting on some systems so I thought I'd pass the hastles on to them (assuming that the system I choose isn't carrying a ridiculous markup of course !)

the 3rd gen speakers aren't too bad (for standard).... i reckon there's some sort of bass doobey behind the dash (around the glove box) but haven't had a proper look.

i've got 4x40w rms and it's loud enough.... had a small sub but i couldn't hear it cos of all the junk in my boot!
nee nar nee nar, i'm a fire engine!

                      Ehh?

what on earth is one of them? and what makes you say that?

I just stuck a jvc headunit in my 3rd Gen - the speakers are okay, but they'll definitely get changed when i can afford it. Any volume and they just distort way too much. Seems fine for some music, but definitely not for rock!

Hmmm - another master plan consigned to the pile marked CREPE !

Halfrauds have stripped the beast to fit the new unit only to discover that the PC2-17-4 isn't the right adaptor and they don't stock a suitable alternative ......

Kev, Pretty please - will your adaptor fit a 3rd Gen - if so can we do a deal ?

At least I'll save a few bob on the head unit if I don't buy from Halfrauds and they've already loosened everything up for the removal so a muppet like me should have no probs doing the fit - I hope !

not sure what the number is...but i bought my adapter at Halfrauds...and it was for a 3rd Gen.

I do remember the label said it was for any toyota except MR2 and , i think a tercel.

It was also in their own packaging, so if they say they don't stock it, they should be able to obtain it.

Installing is really easy.....give it a try. you'll save yourself a fortune!

Very strange - that sounds like the description on the PC2-17-4 pack - wonder if Mr Halfraud was just an idle sheeet and didn't want the hassle of the install ?
