  • Hi All Newbie V6 Member

Hi My name is Michael i'm living in Auckland, New Zealand used to live in Kent and before that Surrey.

Just bought myself a 1991 3litre V6 Hilux Surf with suspension lift, exhaust tints and in a very nice colour of blue.

My questions! how many miles/Kilometres should i be doing, since the first half of a tank was gone in 100k/62.5m!! ok so it slowed down since but i think i'll be lucky if i hit 300k.

I really love this truck and refuse to sell but my god if this is normal i can't afford it

    I get about 250miles a tank 60ltr to 65ltr
so thats about 400kms for you.
    Welcome to the club.

Yeah, welcome to the club. You are now in the most exclusive petrol pump destroying gang in the world.

I get 350-400km a tank, depending on how much I try to pretend it goes fast.

Well i think 400k is quite good. I do 440-500 in my FTO so i'm happy with 400.

What if i tell you i ran our of petrol and had only done 230k 143.75m, also the truck wouldn't start in the morning and felt really sluggish, so i think it's time for a service

I would look for the hole in the fuel tank.
8miles per gal (us) is very bad, thats what hummers do.

Third member of the exclusive V6 club reporting for duty as far as I know there are only 3 of us UK based forum members here with these V6’s.

I fill mine to the brim each time it gets down to half a tank. I still have an odometer that reads in km’s. By my calculations I reckon on 15 – 16 mpg. That is with an auto box, 31” General Grabbers AT2’s and a speedo that under reads by 5mph.

Had mine a year now (going for its MOT on Saturday, fingers crossed) and I find it costs me roughly £180 per month travelling to and from work. Of course it costs extra depending on how many weekend trips I make, so I budget £250 max for fuel per month.

The way I see it is that my truck is bought and paid for and the only real expense is the petrol….. whereas people in their new boring, mundane family hatchbacks may get good fuel economy and lower cost road tax but are then generally paying 15k plus for the privilege and taking out expensive bank loans.
Mine WAS a 150 bhp V6 and ran on PETROL

haha totally agree with you there. fook having a loan, i bought mine for $4109 which is about 1556 pounds and it means it belongs to me!! not the bank

Hopefully there is only small things wrong with it when we check it over the weekend, i'm back driving me FTO for now, since i can't trust the petrol and stalling lol

                fingers crossed for the MOT

Well it looks as though the air/fuel regulator wasn't working properly so we have jimmied it, if it doesn't hold we can get another one if not. We'll see how many Kms i do this week, hopfully more then 233

                      Another member here then.
I'm really in 2 minds as to whether I should keep it or not. I don't do many miles, I suppose, so petrol won't be all THAT bad.
                      I thought I was buying a 3litre TD
                      Oh well.
I like it though. I'll have a little look round before I start asking millionions of questions, probably most have already been answered.

But, yeah. Count me in on the V6 club for now!

Oh, actually. Has anyone else been asked by their insurance to provide evidence that the immobiliser/alarm is CAT1/CAT2 thatcham approved? Direct line reckon I've got to provide details within the month.

                      Cheers

That's quite normal on imports, hopefully there's a certificate in the paperwork for it somewhere.

My problem is i need a new air fuel regulator so i'm just driving my car at the moment, but once it hits 400k a tank i'll be happy

I must admit revving it in Neutral and seeing the bonnet dip does make me feel like the terminator or something

Going for a Valet tomorrow, it's booked in for a full service/MOT at a place I trust (not a 4x4 specialist, but a good bloke nonetheless) on Monday.
Picsplz when it's all shiney for your picsplz thread!

Liking these forums by the way. Friendly lot. Makes the whole experience of being a hilux owner all the richer!

                              Joining the V6 club

                              Hi, i'm now a proud owner of a 3.0L V6 SR5 and I absolutely love it!!!!

Has anyone learnt any tricks to extended the range of the gas guzzler?
I'm currently getting 250miles in City Driving.

I love this 4x4 too much and don't want to change it for a smaller engine, petrol or diesel. Realistically what's the difference in fuel costs and range between our V6's and the diesels and smaller petrols?
