hi guys.just though i would add to the engine transplant pages,i take it this is for any engine transplant not just the 1uzfe.?
for those that are interested im in the middle of transplanting the daihatsu 2.8 tdi engine into my surf.i will try and do a write up with pics as i go,so far i have removed the engine and automatic gearbox, and sat the new heart in the engine bay to gauge what i need to remove in the way of metal from sump and inner wings, because the diahatsu engine has its turbo and exhaust manifold entering and exiting on the near side, theres not a lot of room. as far as i can see, new mounting brackets will have to be fabricated to mount the power steering pump on the off side and to mount the original hilux alternator to the near side.a diahatsu down pipe will also be required to mate up with the surf exhaust once cut and re-welded to fit.im also going to use a manual 5 speed diahatsu gear box,the only thing i need to source for this is a pedal box as my surf is/was automatic.and while im there i will convert the cable operated diahatsu box to a hilux hydraulic operated clutch.once engine and box was removed i then went about cutting the old wiring loom out, keeping just an earth wire for body to block, the glow plug wires, starter wiring and alternator wiring (which will require lengthening and a later stage in the build).all the other engine wiring(sensor wiring will be removed from the loom) as its not required, all you need is an ignition live feed to the stop control.
the old girl looking a bit worse for wear
engine and g/box removed
