  • rear diff oil change

finally got round to rear diff oil change
I ordered the LSD oil from Difflock - even though at 143k mile i knew that the LSD clutch will be kaputt in the rear diff, and i have tested it and it doesnt work.
drained the oil, worrying thing is 3 chunks metal - small 'teeth' came out and some swarf on the magnetic plug. So guess the rear diff has lost some teeth, and worn.
oil was in a right filthy state,
cant afford a new rear diff, so will just have to see how it goes,
someone in the vehicles past must have had it in 4wd on tarmac to shear gear teeth off,

You may find its remains of some of the LSD clutch plates, I often find bits in diff oil when draining oil. While its not right, if its not noisey and not to baggy (backlash on the pinion), it'll be OK.

thats what i thought, there is a fair bit of slack, i.e. if both wheels at back in air, and you turn one, there is a fair bit slack before the other turns,
not sure if thats the backlash on pinion youre talking about tony
