  • 2WP or not 2WP?

When I bought the car, the seller included a water pump and said it needed doing soon, but tbh I think he might have been a bit obsessed with cooling as there was a switch wired in to manually switch on the aircon fan, and I've never had any reason to think that the water pump needed changing in 9 months of ownership.
Yesterday I broke down and had to get the AA out due to my alternator packing in, so I'm ordering a new alternator plus fan belts plus aircon belt. I've got the batteries out and on charge and today I took the alternator off. I decided while I'm at it I might as well check the cam belt and it looks like it could do with changing as well, so added the kit to my shopping basket as well.
So my question is, while I'm doing the belts, should I change the water pump while I'm there? It would make sense as half of what I need to remove to get to the pump will be off already, but on the other hand why disturb it if it's working fine?
It's the one with the rear cast housing, if that has any bearing on the decision.
    TIA

It's up to you, if you have it and if it's an Aisin one you might as well do it and take the opportunity to put new coolant in. On the other hand, if it doesn't leak and your cooling system works, why bother? Water pump failure is not common on the surf .
    Cheers

I would change it. Also check the housing it attaches to for corrosion. These sometimes need replacing. Consider crank and cam seals as well.

It is an Aisin one, the full housing one (Roughtrax code CWP004). And it would be a good time to replace the coolant as well if it needs doing, I haven't tested it yet so I don't know what it's like. I'll check that later, it might help sway my decision!
Cam seal looks good, I haven't had a good look at the crank seal yet but I imagine that's not going to be a quick job to replace?
If it was inside a workshop and I could work on it at my leisure then it would be a no-brainer but unfortunately I have to work outside the front of my house so weather is a factor and although I have a week to get it back on the road (the Mrs is away so I have the use of her car!), I work full time so I'm limited to working on it in the evenings and the nights are drawing in.
