  • Injector wear

    Hi Folks,

Scouting around the search function seems to suggest people get ~27ish mpg out of the KZN185 auto, assuming normal use and not towing etc. Is this a reasonable comment to make? I seem to get 21 regardless of 2wd/4wd/aircon/noaircon/driving like a granny or not.

I've noticed I belch black smoke on kickdown (like fill the road) but generally it's pretty clean looking.

Would you consider it worth while switching out injectors to see or not worth the effort?

Before doing that try running a bottle of injector cleaner, like Forte or similar, through a quarter tank of diesel.
    Cheers

Hmm I'll give it a go but I'd be amazed. Last tank, average use, 19.5mpg

well i get anything from 28 to 32
and that includes up to 80 ish
question why you use kickdown i have never needed to
        are you getting into overdrive
check yer gearbox fluid if thats low you wont get gears properly
        is the fluid naffed
        are yer brakes binding
if you was overfueling it would give smoke all the time
if none of the above you need to get it checked out
and when i am getting 32 i am on motorways pulling a large caravan

Kickdown gets used about once ever 10 miles. Nothing unusual about it as far as I can see, I'm pretty sympathetic to it because I have a fast car to satiate that urge - it gets gentle care and smooth driving. Overdrive is fine seems to be working fine and ive replaced all fluids end to end 4 months ago (diffs, transmission, engine etc). Transmission oil was a bit brownish but not massively. Brakes not binding, for sure, had it up on blocks to check. As it's my first auto it's hard to tell if it's properly engaging, seems to sound almost like CVT if driven gently but if driven hard you can feel defined shift points.

Original tyres size but KO2s all round.

Doesn't smoke in normal use, only on putting the shoe in.

Starting is a bit laggy, might take 3 or 4 rotations to start but always does.

I'll give the cleaner a go, keep the tyre pressures up and might fire the injectors off for a service. They do have 220k km on them.

Does seem like its just how some are, oddly.

Not intercooled. Had considered adding one though!
